Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death in the UK. It accounts for 6% of all deaths.
The first course, which took place on Tuesday, was run by Dr Robin Ghosal, consultant respiratory physician at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. He said the procedure, called endobronchial ultrasound, had “revolutionised the way we approach diagnosing lung cancer patients”. ”It allows for both the diagnosis of more complex, difficult to reach tumours, as well as how far the cancer has spread within the chest, all in a 45-minute procedure,” he said.
